Tower Capital Management launches the Tower GEM UCITS Fund on the MontLake UCITS Platform
DUBLIN, November 3rd 2015 - Tower Capital Management and ML Capital are delighted to formally announce the launch of the Tower GEM UCITS Fund, a global emerging markets equity long/short fund launched on the MontLake UCITS Platform in August 2015. MontLake is a leading independent platform for UCITS funds that provides investors with access to a range of liquid, transparent and regulated investment products domiciled in Dublin. An established emerging markets fund manager, Tower is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Founded in 2009, Tower currently manages approximately $160 million across emerging market and South African long/short funds, and long-focused unit trusts. At the heart of Tower's investment philosophy is downside protection of returns. As fundamentalists, their investment process searches for value relative to quality. They believe that understanding the quality of earnings, strategic positioning and people is crucial to the achievement of consistent benchmark-beating investment results.
The Tower team is headed up by Richard Bottger and James Faircliff, and has significant experience in emerging markets. Born, educated and practised in emerging markets, this knowledge is firmly nuanced in the investment process and is important when identifying associated investment themes. In all instances the investment team has been covering global emerging markets comparable companies for years as an integral part of their Sub-Saharan Africa ("SSA") investment process and approach.
Speaking today, James Faircliff of Tower Capital said: "Our new GEM UCITS Fund provides us with the opportunity to apply our proven thematic investment style into a broader investable universe, and more specifically to allow for us to express our long and short equity ideas in those EM sectors that we have specialised in for years. We firmly believe that our core EM consumer-orientated strategy will prove to be one of the best investable themes of our lifetime."
Cyril Delamare, CEO of ML Capital commented: "We are very enthusiastic about our partnership with Tower Capital. Their proven emerging markets track record and unique focus on Sub-Saharan Africa makes them an appealing diversifier for investors. The Tower GEM Fund is a welcome addition to the UCITS universe and we are excited by the growth potential of this fund."
The Tower GEM UCITS Fund will invest in global emerging markets with a bias towards SSA listed companies possessing EM exposure, leveraging off Tower's 6 year track record and experience in SSA. Investment ideas come from combining top down thematic ideas with detailed bottom up analysis of target companies, and the portfolio is constructed to protect capital while generating significant alpha from both long and short ideas. Position sizes and portfolio exposures will be dynamically traded for profit generation and risk management.
